Six children were injured in a two-vehicle crash this morning on the Parkway East, Pennsylvania State Police said.

One child is in the intensive care unit of Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, said Trooper Robin Mungo. The other children also were taken to the hospital, but their conditions were not immediately available.

A woman was driving a minivan inbound in the left lane around 11 a.m. when, for reasons that aren't clear, she hit a concrete barrier and flipped over onto another vehicle just before the Edgewood/Swissvale exit, Trooper Mungo said.

The minivan continued to roll and went through a guide rail and over an embankment, she said.

At least one other adult was in the other vehicle, but whether that person and the woman driving the minivan were injured was not immediately clear.

State police are investigating the crash.
