Pittsburgh police arrested a 65-year-old East Hills man after he allegedly slashed another man with a utility knife during a fight Monday morning at a house in East Liberty.
Arnold Carver, of Frankstown Avenue, is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person after officers broke up a fight between him and Rodney Welch at 514 N. Euclid Ave. about 5:40 a.m.
Mr. Welch was taken to UPMC Presbyterian in serious condition with a 5- to 6-inch cut to his chest, according to a criminal complaint. Witnesses saw Mr. Carver with the utility knife, the complaint says.
Mr. Carver told police he was asleep on the couch after drinking at the house when he woke to find he was missing his cell phone and cash and blamed Mr. Welch for taking it.
Police found Mr. Carver's phone in his own pocket and recovered three used crack pipes from the scene.
