The Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire added 29 men to its ranks this morning.
At an outdoor ceremony at the city's Fire Academy on Washington Boulevard, the recruits performed rescue demonstrations before taking an oath led by Mayor Luke Ravenstahl.

The class of recruits was lauded as one of the best trained, the product of an extended curriculum that was introduced in January. Recruits now spend 32 weeks at the training academy, as opposed to about half that a year ago, and receive more medical and technical rescue training.
