Two robbery suspects were treated for bites from police dogs after they held up a gold and silver business on Penn Avenue late Friday afternoon, police said.

Officers were called about 5:30 p.m. to the Penn Gold and Silver Exchange in the 4000 block of Penn Ave. in Lawrenceville on a report of a robbery in progress, Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard said.

The two suspects, whose identities were not immediately released, ran when officers arrived. Using police dogs, one suspect was caught near UPMC Children's Hospital and the other was found underneath a deck for an above-ground pool in the area, Ms. Richard said. Both were treated for bite wounds.

Police recovered a BB gun and a small black revolver believed to have been used in the robbery. Ms. Richard said the police report was being prepared and could not immediately provide additional information.
