A SWAT situation in Hazelwood ended peacefully tonight, after Pittsburgh police took two men into custody.

Police surrounded a row house in the 100 block of Flowers Avenue after a report that at least one man with a handgun had entered the residence.

About an hour and a half after police responded to the 911 call, two men exited the house on police instruction. Both men were handcuffed and placed in police vehicles.

Two handguns were recovered from the house, Zone 4 police Lt. Craig Campbell said.

The men, whose identities were not immediately available, will face charges, he said.

Sunday night, a man was shot in the chest just more than a quarter of a mile away, on the 4700 block of Monongahela Street. Lt. Campbell said the situations "may or may not" be connected.

"My take on it is that if they had more things for people to do with their idle time, as far as jobs, as far as recreation, it wouldn't be violent out here like this," said 45-year Hazelwood resident Saundra Cole McKamey, who runs a Hazelwood nonprofit, People of Origin Rightfully Loved and Wanted, or POORLAW.

She watched the SWAT situation tonight from about a block away.
