Authorities say a Facebook scammer is exploiting a Pittsburgh police officer's recent heart attack to bamboozle well-meaning colleagues out of money.

According to a memo sent Friday from the department's Computer Crime Unit, an unknown scam artist is posing as Officer Ray Kain, who suffered a heart attack last month at the West End Bridge. The fake Officer Kain has systematically friended police officers on the social networking site, told them he's in need and asked for money.

The Facebook profile was a cunning copy, police said, duplicating Officer Kain's personal information and photos.

"This new fake Facebook profile in Ray Kain's name is very difficult to differentiate from the real Facebook account belonging to Officer Kain," wrote Detective Christopher Vendilli in the memo.

Police officials contacted Officer Kain and verified he is not active on Facebook. They warned officers to be careful on social media and not to send any money to the faux Facebooker.
