Pittsburgh City Council President Darlene Harris dropped out of the city mayor's race today.

Mrs. Harris, of Spring Hill, was among six remaining Democrats seeking the party's endorsement May 21 in the wake of Mayor Luke Ravenstahl's announcement this month that he would not seek reelection. She withdrew her nomination minutes before the 5 p.m. deadline today to do so, and could not be immediately reached for an explanation.

The other Democratic candidates include city Controller Michael Lamb of Mount Washington, Councilman Bill Peduto of Point Breeze, former state Auditor General Jack Wagner of Beechview, state Rep. Jake Wheatley of the Hill District and bus monitor A.J. Richardson of Sheraden. Josh Wander of Squirrel Hill is the sole Republican.

Others can drop out of the race later through a court order.
