Pennsylvania State Police are investigating an early morning shooting on the Parkway East.

A 32-year-old woman and her 29-year-old male passenger were in the left lane inbound near the Second Avenue exit about 3:41 a.m. when a white SUV pulled up in the center lane beside them, according Trooper Robin Mungo of the state police Pittsburgh barracks in Moon.

Someone in a white SUV began firing at them, hitting both the driver and passenger.

The SUV continued west on I-376. The man and woman drove across the Fort Pitt Bridge and onto West Carson Street, where they stopped and got a ride to a hospital from a friend. Shortly after the shooting, a Pittsburgh police officer in Zone 6 responded to a call about an SUV with multiple bullet holes on West Carson Street near the West End Bridge.

Both the man and woman were listed in stable condition. Police don't know whether the occupants of the vehicles knew each another.
