Two workers fell this afternoon from a third-story balcony of a new apartment building under construction near 49th and Harrison streets in Pittsburgh's Lawrenceville neighborhood.

Police said it is possible the men's falls were broken when they hit a second floor balcony directly below the platform that collapsed.

One man was on his side between two gas tanks and the other was on his back on the ground when police arrived, police said.

The workers, ages 18 and 24, have been transported to UPMC Presbyterian.

Pittsburgh police said the two men's conditions are stable. Zone Two police will handle the investigation.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Building Inspection are also investigating.
