Pittsburgh police this afternoon arrested in the West End a woman they say shot her mother through the front door of her mother's home in Elliott early this morning.

Officers took India Rayzer, 27, into custody about 2:25 p.m.

She will be charged with attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, two counts of reckless endangerment and firearm charges.

Ms. Rayzer's 58-year-old mother told police this morning she was sleeping on the couch with her boyfriend when she heard the doorbell and knocking just after 1:30 a.m. at her home in the 1000 block of Crucible Street.

The woman looked out the front-door window and saw Ms. Rayzer and asked what she was doing there, police said.

The younger woman raised a handgun and shot through the door, hitting her mother in the shoulder, police said.

The woman fell to the ground and crawled away as Ms. Rayzer fired several more rounds into the home, police said.

The woman was taken to the hospital.

Police are looking for Ms. Rayzer. Police described her as suffering from mental illness: schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. She stands 5 feet 2, has a heavy build and was wearing a black coat and scarf.

Police asked anyone with information to call 911.
