The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and other news organizations will appeal a federal judge's decision to conceal jurors' names and personal information in the recently concluded trial of Dr. Cyril H. Wecht.

The appeal also will contest U.S. District Judge Arthur J. Schwab's use of the same jury selection procedures in the May 27 retrial of Dr. Wecht that were used in the first trial.

Judge Schwab declared a mistrial April 8, when the jury deadlocked on 41 counts alleging that the former Allegheny County coroner committed wire fraud, mail fraud and theft from an organization receiving federal funds.

The appeal to the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals by the Post-Gazette, WPXI Inc. and Tribune-Review Publishing Co. has not yet been filed.

Judge Schwab has said he will not release the names until the conclusion of the retrial.
