State police at Kittanning are investigating a hit-and-run crash that occurred at 5:35 p.m. Saturday on Route 28 in O'Hara Township. No one was hurt but three vehicles were damaged.

Police said the crash occurred as Jeffrey Torin, 51, of Indiana, was southbound on Route 28, approaching the Fox Chapel exit ramp when he was being closely followed by a speeding 1994 Chevrolet Silverado truck. Meanwhile, Francis Esposito, 81, of Pittsburgh, was northbound on Fox Chapel Road when he accidentally entered the off-ramp of Route 28, meaning to have entered the on-ramp to Route 28 South, police said.

Police said Mr. Esposito ended up traveling in the wrong direction on Route 28, heading directly toward Mr. Torin. As Mr. Torin slowed his Honda SUV to avoid a collision with Mr. Esposito's Cadillac, Mr. Torin's SUV was slammed from behind by the vehicle that police said was traveling too fast and following too closely. At that point, the Silverado exited the highway at Fox Chapel Road where it then drove over a curb and tore up about 100 feet of someone's yard along Fox Chapel Road. The driver fled on foot, abandoning the Silverado.

Police said Mr. Esposito will be issued a traffic citation for careless driving. The driver of the Silverado will be charged with hit-and-run and other traffic violations, police said.

Anyone with information about the driver of the Silverado is asked to call police at 724-543-2011.
