Sharon DeMore, 43, had "domestic issues" with her estranged boyfriend, the upstairs tenant at 519 Louann St. in Shaler, according to Allegheny County police.

One neighbor said they had broken up six months ago after four years of dating. Jodi Frankel, the property owner, said the couple had been "off and on" since the man began renting the apartment in October.

Whatever tumult existed between them erupted early Friday, when Ms. DeMore, of Etna, shot the man at least three times on his porch before turning the gun on herself, according to police.

James Morton, assistant county police superintendent, said Ms. DeMore waited on the porch of the multifamily house until her former boyfriend left there for work. She shot him, and she later was found dead of a gunshot wound to the head on a side porch; a gun registered to her was found next to her body, he said.

The wounded man, whose name has not been released, was shot in the back and shoulder, police said. He was taken to Allegheny General Hospital, where he was in critical condition.

Police said neighbors heard shots and started calling police about 6:20 a.m.

Superintendent Morton said the couple was estranged recently but, despite their erratic relationship, police had never been called to the home.

No one was in the house during the incident, police said

Superintendent Morton said investigators were trying to determine a motive for the shootings.

"This is a good area. Everything that happened here was between these two people," he said.

Shelly Leidecker, 37, who lives in another apartment in the building, said the male victim was “a good man.”

“We're just praying for his recovery,” she said.

Ms. Frankel said the man had three children. A neighbor said Ms. DeMore was divorced with four children.

“He is a fun-loving person, good father,” said Ms. Frankel.
