Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto today detailed his plans to hire police officers, firefighters, paramedics and building inspectors.

In the police bureau, which already was slated to have a class of cadets in March, he authorized another class in the fall. He also signed off on a new class of firefighters “as soon as possible.” The Bureau of Emergency Medical Services will advertise eight vacancies and the Bureau of Building Inspection will hire five inspectors as soon as possible.

On Tuesday, he met with the chiefs of those bureaus and said he learned that all four had critical staffing needs.
