Officials break ground for East Liberty retail-housing complex

Officials ceremonially broke ground this morning on a $14.2 million retail and housing complex in East Liberty.

Construction on East Liberty Place South, located at the intersection of Penn Avenue and North Beatty Street, began a month ago. The building is expected to be finished next October.

The 52 units, constructed by nonprofit Community Builders with the help of tax credits, will be mixed-income. Some units will go for market rate while others will base rent on a percentage of median income.

“This is just a continuation of East Liberty’s development and investment,” Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl said.
