2002 Photos of the Year:
Cheering from afar

By Bill Wade

While the Steelers played the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game on Jan. 27 at Heinz Field, fans were captivated in front of TVs all over the city.

Wade: "I went in search of action taking place away from the stadium, and I chose a few situations, including James Lipscomb watching from his parking lot job for Central Parking Systems in Downtown Pittsburgh. Lipscomb, who is a San Francisco fan, watches a little black-and-white TV and cheers as he watches a Patriots score. Several other workers wandered in and out of the booth as the game progressed. Another location I checked out was Heinz Hall, where Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra members watched from their lounge during an intermission."
