2017 Artist and Emerging Artist Reception held at The Center for the Arts

#ArtIsNotDead ... But very much alive, especially for the 350 guests who perused works at the Center for the Arts in Shadyside on Friday night celebrating the work of Emerging Artist of the Year, Haylee Ebersole, as well as Artist of the Year, Jo-Anne Bates. While reflecting on Ms. Bates’ career and influence, local artist and friend Thaddeus Mosley said, “This is art of social and political message, distinct and subdued, recalling the McLuhan doctrine, ‘The Medium is the Message.’” Added Lauren Goshinski: “This is an all-woman show, this is an intergenerational show, and this is a show comprised primarily of women of color. It affords us profound moments to reflect, acknowledge and learn.” Art enthusiasts also enjoyed soulful comfort food by Carla El of Chloe Nicole Catering LLC, and a fashion show produced by runway coach Jaylee Lemon and emceed by Maxine Plotkin.

#SEEN: Germaine Williams, CEO of Pittsburgh Filmmakeers/Pittsburgh Center for the Arts; Janis Burley Wilson with daughter Margaret Burley; Susan Austin; Brian Bates; Stephen Bates; Roy and Janet Bates; Shannon Pultz; Tereneh Mosley; Thad Mosley; Tina Brewer; Nancy Washington; Sylvia Robinson; Seth Clark; Sarika Goulatia; and Charlee Brodsky.
