#PotOGold: A blanket of snow instead of shamrocks covered Heinz Field during the 41st annual American Ireland Fund Gala held in the East Club Lounge on St. Patrick’s Day. There was plenty of green inside with more than 600 guests paying triubte to the Irish as men wore green tie and tux and women were adorned in shades of the Emerald Isle. The America Ireland Fund has raised more than $500 million for worthy causes and people in need in the U.S. and Ireland.
#APintOrTwo: Transformed into “Rooney’s Pub,” the party kicked off with a VIP reception featuring a talk by Howard Fineman (with Amy Nathan). He was the evening’s special guest and childhood friend of this year’s Chairman’s Award recipient Sy Holzer. “Sy is the same smart, hard working, modest guy he was in junior high,” noted Mr. Fineman. Mr. Fineman is the global editorial director at The Huffington Post.
#FeelingJiggy: Traditional Irish folk music by Red Hand Paddy had everyone in the mood for a Guinness or a sip of Jameson. The Burke Conroy School of Irish Dance demonstrated amazing skills as the 600 guests socialized. World-class Irish fiddlers entertained during dinner. Enjoying the Irish fete were honorary co-chair Art Rooney II, gala chair David Malone with Nancy, Penguin’s David Morehouse with Vanessa, Pirate’s owner Bob Nutting, Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy, Tom Buchanan, University of Pittsburgh chancellor Pat Gallagher with Karen, Pirate’s president Frank Coonelly, former Gov. Tom Corbett with Susan, Randy and Shari Dearth, Kim and Wayne Honath, Caitlin and Zach Malone and Leslie Gromis Baker.
