Fly Away Bash held at Voyager Jet Center

The Place: Voyager Jet Center at the Allegheny County Airport in West Mifflin.

The Party: What better way to spend a picture-perfect Friday night than to celebrate Big Brothers Big Sisters 51st year of service with the annual Fly Away Bash? A beaming Jan Glick, CEO of BBBS, reflected for a moment to take in the crowd of more than 650 guests. “It’s so meaningful to have everyone here to support the great work being done in the community. It really is thrilling to have Pittsburgh behind us.” VIP guests had an opportunity to meet Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey, who graciously posed for photo after photo with excited guests. “The Steelers asked me to come and support this and of course I said ‘heck yeah!’ Whatever people are doing to help the community, I want to be involved with,” he said smiling. Partygoers enjoyed a strolling supper, silent auction, and some packed their bags in hopes that they would win the grand prize of boarding a private jet to depart immediately for two nights in New York City.

The Purpose: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh provides at-risk youth with one-on-one mentorship that aims to improve their lives. “I don’t know who gets more out of it, me or my little,” said Ned Schano, director of communications for the Heinz History Center who has been volunteering with BBBS for years.
