The Bridesmaids Parade and Walk at the Waterfront
Bring Out the Bridesmaids: On Sept. 21, friends from all over came out in their best (and worst!) bridesmaids and prom dresses to benefit the Cancer Caring Center. Participants were invited to don regular walk attire OR wear something they would ordinarily be unable to wear again (such as a bridesmaid, prom or wedding gown). Other supporters known as “Beggy’s Battalion” donned green T-shirts in memory of the Center’s Board President Mary Beth Beggy-Fischerkeller.
#SEEN: Rebecca Whitlinger who spearheaded the event, Bridget Sullivan, Tall Cathy from 96.1 and Howard Hanna’s Lisa Sill and Natalie Mikula from Panera Bread.
13th Annual Women’s Leadership Breakfast
When and Where: Tuesday, roughly 1,000 women joined at the Wyndham Grand for the 13th Annual Women’s Leadership Breakfast.
The Cause: United Way of Allegheny County’s Women’s Leadership Council is comprised of women who donate $1,000 or more annually to United Way. Members work to mobilize the caring power of women to advance the common good.
The Details: The breakfast featured remarks from Pennsylvania First Lady Susan Corbett and a keynote speech from New York Times bestselling author Glennon Doyle Melton. The Women’s Leadership Council raised $8.27 million dollars in 2013-2014 —a 5.8 percent increase representing more than one quarter of all contributed dollars to United Way’s annual campaign (close to $34 million was raised for the annual campaign last year).
West Penn Hospital Women’s Committee 100th Anniversary Tea
Tea Time: The Women’s Committee of West Penn Hospital marked its centennial of supporting West Penn Hospital, its patients and community with a tea on Wednesday. A Commitment to Care: The Women’s Committee is a volunteer force that has been in continuous operation since 1914 and has raised millions of dollars for West Penn’s medical library and conference center campaign, the School of Nursing, the STAR Center, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, West Penn Burn Center’s Summer Camp, the Patient Care Fund and the Employee Catastrophic Fund, among others.
#SEEN: Members of the Women’s Committee and their guests, board members, hospital administrators, representatives of Allegheny Health Network and Highmark, physicians, nursing students and employees attended along with Valerie McDonald Roberts, representing Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto.
Bradford House Museum’s First Wine Tasting Event
On Friday, guests were treated to an 18th century party that included a tour through the historic 1788 home, where docents in period attire answered questions. Guests tasted food and drink typical of the era and enjoyed a lovely fall evening in the garden. Given the rave reviews of the attendees, there will be more wine events in the future. The Bradford House is located on South Main Street in downtown Washington, Pa., and can be toured by appointment or booked for small private events.
