Sips at the Phipps -- there is nothing like a few buzzed botanists to bring a party to full bloom. Seriously, though, a buzz surrounded the 120th anniversary celebration of Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens during Thursday evening's Wines Under Glass party in Oakland. More than 300 guests circulated among the ferns in the tropical gardens pavilion. Honorary chairs Ginny and Dick Simmons joined honorary host committee chair Athena Sarris and executive director Richard Piacentini in paying tribute to Green Heart Awardee Paula Sculley as well as Mernie Berger, who celebrated a birthday and was recognized for her volunteer work. Among those under glass were Ruth Garfunkel, Jean Horne, Sibby and Duff McCrady and Susan Golomb.
