A 35-foot inflated Heinz Pickle balloon looms over the Rachel Carson Bridge as worker's prepare for Picklesburgh.
Balloon Ride Fantasy will be among the bands playing Picklesburgh this weekend.
While the Pirates are away, the pickles will play.
The first-ever Picklesburgh, taking place Friday and Saturday on the Rachel Carson Bridge, Downtown, on Ninth Street between Downtown and the North Side, will feature 40 vendors selling all things pickled and cured, including corned beef, sauerbraten, pierogies and sauerkraut, kimchi and dilly beans.
Penn Avenue’s Meat & Potatoes will participate with other Downtown restaurants. Whole Foods will host a pickling demo station and offer DIY pickling starter kits. Attendees will also find pickle-inspired craft cocktails and a pickle brine-drinking contest (finals at 6:30 p.m. Saturday). And there will be live music and giant flying Heinz pickle balloon, custom-built by a team that also crafts balloons for Disney and the Macy’s Thanksgiving.
It is sponsored by H.J. Heinz Co., Whole Foods, BNY Mellon and Future POS, a Butler-based company that supplies point-of-sale software to restaurants around the country.
Times are 3 to 10 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. Information: www.picklesburgh.com.
