Motherhood is not always as sweet as a Hallmark card.

From babyhood to the terrible 2s to the drama of the adolescence and the joys and trials of adulthood, the experiences of raising children evoke a roller coaster of emotions for moms.

What have your experiences been like? We're asking moms to share their reflections on the realities of motherhood -- as fulfilling, satisfying or challenging as they are -- in short essays. The PG will choose several to be published on Mother's Day, May 12, in the Sunday Magazine print edition and on www.post-gazette.com.

Please send essays of between 250 to 300 words by email to magazine@post-gazette.com (include Mother's Day in the subject line) or by letter to Virginia Linn, Features Department, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 34 Blvd. of the Allies, Pittsburgh PA 15222. Include your name, address (with city neighborhood or suburban community) and daytime telephone number. Writers' names and towns/neighborhoods (not full addresses) will appear with published essays.

Deadline for submission is Monday, May 6.
