Your garden is ready for its close-up — really! Today we begin accepting entries for the 2014 Great Gardens Contest sponsored by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Pittsburgh Botanic Garden. The deadline is June 21 for photos and descriptions of your early summer garden, July 19 for midsummer gardens and Sept. 6 for early fall/year-round gardens.

This year, we did away with the spring garden category because we got few entries. Turns out people who love tulips, daffodils and other spring bloomers didn’t think their gardens looked good enough to enter. How about now? Shoot your rhododendron, dogwoods and other seasonal favorites and enter online at http://biz.post-gazette.com/gardencontest/. Winners in each judging period receive tickets to the Botanic Garden’s annual garden tour, Botanic Garden membership and, of course, seeing their garden featured in the pages of the PG Home & Garden section.
