Fans of budget-friendly fashions are in luck! Some of style's favorite designers and brands are rolling out collections at more affordable price points:
Betsey Johnson Vintage for Urban Outfitters: Fashion's punk princess has teamed with the retail chain on some '90s grunge-meets-girly dresses. Expect airy weights with a focus on floral prints contrasted with darker hues. Most of them are less than $100. See them all at www.urbanoutfitters.com.
J.Crew to plan lower-priced line: Fashion news outlets have been abuzz with news that J.Crew is expected to launch a modestly priced collection to be sold online and in retail locations. It likely will be called J.Crew Mercantile and will include pieces in the $100 or less price range.
Marimekko capsule collection at Banana Republic: The retailer's latest capsule collection will offer approximately 25 color and print-heavy clothing pieces and accessories in time for summer. Marimekko is a Finnish fashion and design house revered for its rich textile patterns. Apparel will be $39.50-$140, and accessories will go for $39.50-$98, in stores and online at www.bananarepublic.com in late May.
From the Pittsburgh fashion and beauty front ...
Crystal River Gems reopens, bead trunk show at Fifth Avenue Place, Downtown: The shop on the lower level is now open after being remodeled and will offer up to 70 percent off Wednesday through Friday to celebrate. On Tuesday and Wednesday, browse one-of-a-kind beads and ornate stones for jewelry making.
Bridal trunk shows at Glitter & Grit boutique, Lawrenceville: Glamour meets versatility in gowns by Love Found True and Tulle New York. The former will be featured at 5300 Butler St. Wednesday through Sunday. The brand is known for its dresses with optional and removable ceremony skirts, allowing gowns to go from long to short. Tulle New York's body conscious silhouettes will be in the store Friday through Saturday.
Style Week Pittsburgh announces ambassadors: Event organizers have selected a handful of influential figures from Pittsburgh's fashion community to help support and promote the second annual Style Week Pittsburgh, which will take place Aug. 11-17 across the city. The ambassadors include Colleen Coll, Donnella Drewery, Eric Gaines, Adam Gubitosi, Shellie Hipsky, Allegra Johnson, Nikole Li, Michele Pelusi and Leigh Solomon Pugliano.
