With the official start of spring only a few weeks away, it's time to turn the page on a new season of style and, in particular, accessories.
Brands have been offering sneak peeks at their spring/summer collections at preview events, including some in Pittsburgh. Last month, Robinson-based direct sales jewelry company Sabika showcased its latest designs at a fashion show at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh, Downtown. This month, Stella & Dot stylists from across the Tri-State area, plus New York and New Jersey, gathered at the Omni William Penn hotel to see what the direct sales company -- known for its trendy jewelry, handbags and scarves -- has in store for shoppers in the coming months.
From checking out these and other shows, here are some of the accessory trends expected to heat up wardrobes once the snow is gone for good:
Blush and lilac tones: Put some spring in your style with soft hues that channel the season's budding flowers. Gemstones and crystals done in these pinks and purples complement many skin tones and are subtle nods to Pantone's color of the year, radiant orchid.
Black with red accents: Color contrast cropped up a lot on New York Fashion Week runways for next season. Infuse jewelry with the trend by pairing dark stones or finishes with lighter, brighter shades, such as rose or ruby.
Edgy chic: This one's for the girly girl with a tough-girl attitude (or the tomboy who likes to soften her style once in a while). Look for accessories that combine stones or floral accents with studs or chains. Another approach: try feminine pieces (think rhinestones, florals or pearls) with a leather jacket and jeans (or mixed metals with a sun dress) for what Stella & Dot stylists dubbed the ultimate "rocker chic" vibe.
Fresh interpretations of pearls: These aren't your grandmother's pearls (although a simple strand of them never goes out of style). New takes on this classic look play with mixing multiple sizes of pearls, layering them or creating pearl tiers that dangle from a gold or silver chain.
Strong geometric shapes: Go bold with abstract or tribal-inspired patterns, ideal for a statement necklace or ring. Or get geometric with bracelets or necklaces with beads done in unusual shapes.
Sexy bohemian: Bring the easy, breezy lifestyle to your closet with long golden chains, antique finishes and flirty tassels.
