For $3 tacos all day every day of the week, head to Bull River Taco Co.
The new occupant at 1707 Murray Ave. in Squirrel Hill has made the space feel bigger and livelier. It sits in the spot that was previously occupied by Waffallonia, which has moved next door.
Spanish songs play in the background and blue-and-white Azulejos ceramic tiles adorn the counter and divide the black and white parts of the walls in the narrow storefront restaurant. Faux bull skulls, mounted on silver boards framed by red and silver borders, are lined on the walls.
A menu, identical to the printed ones, is expected to go up soon on the blank stretch of a long wall, manager Jeff Horrell said. Freshly made street-style tacos are a big part of the small menu. There are five types — pork, chicken, beef, spicy beef and vegetable — and each costs $3. They are served with either Bullseye sauce (a mayo-based chipotle-ranch condiment) or the Cholala cream (a housemade sour cream with black pepper and garlic salt) and served on corn or flour tortillas.
Salad with choice of meat ($5.79); nachos loaded with multicolored tortilla chips, cheese, pico di gallo, jalapenos and choice of meat ($5.79); chips and salsa are the other items on the menu. A variety of Mexican sodas as well as “Mexican” Coca-Cola (made with cane sugar) and “American” water are the beverage choices.
Call 412-421-8226 for takeout orders or stand and eat by the two long wood tables, which has a choice of hot sauces at one end. It is open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday; and 11 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Sunday.
