After Thanksgiving excess, the the body will pine for healthy, light fare like the all-vegan menu with heavy Middle Eastern accents at B52.
It’s hard to have a proper celebration without cake and ice cream, so Millie’s Homemade Ice Cream will combine both to ring in their new second location, to open Downtown at 11 a.m. Sunday.
Owner Chad Townsend said that visitors to the new shop will get a complimentary scoop of their birthday cake ice cream during the first day of business in the JLL Center at 260 Forbes Ave., just off Market Square.
Mr. Townsend and his wife Lauren, both area natives, opened Millie’s in Shadyside in March 2016 to near universal acclaim for the quality of their locally sourced and produced, small batch ice cream. They also have a production facility in Point Breeze.
Mr. Townsend began his career as a chef. Locally he worked at Eleven in the Strip District and Salt of the Earth in Garfield before starting Millie’s. He’s also worked internationally, at the a two-Michelin starred Yoann Conte restaurant in Annecy, France. Mrs. Townsend worked in corporate mergers and acquisitions before co-founding Millie’s.
The Downtown location will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday through Thursday and until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
