The Three Rivers Association of Serious Homebrewers held its annual Homebrew Competition this past Saturday at Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery, and judged 475 entries in 31 flights, or groups of related styles.
President Mike Beattie says they limited the entries to 500 this time to facilitate single-day judging and there were 25 entries that weren't submitted or were lost (last year, there were more than 600 entries).
Best Of Show (the top-rated beer) went to Robert Withee of New Columbia for his specialty beer, Black 'n Brett.
The East End Award (for session ale) went to Pittsburgh's Keith Kost of Pittsburgh for his kolsch, Stop Tickling Mike Beattie.
And the Rock Bottom Award (for commercially viable brew) went to Pittsburgh's Mike Radford for a foreign extra stout, Ja-ja-jamaican Me Crazy.
