I am responding to the Sept. 6 article "Obama Presses Leaders on Syria." The president and his top aides spent their time personally calling 60 senators and 125 representatives (with President Obama calling from St. Petersburg, Russia) to sanction a strike on Syria. This shows that our president is capable of a full-court press to address the passage of a critical resolution.
It is dismaying that he did not show this leadership quality during the debate on universal background checks legislation. If only the daily killing by guns of children, teenagers and adults in our country could prompt the intensity and seriousness that we are seeing from President Obama and his administration.
