A reconstruction by Mark A. Klingler of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History shows the latest discovery by museum scientists, Eomaia scansoria, a small and agile mammal capable of climbing and branch walking in low bushes. It is the earliest-known ancestor of today's placental mammals -- mammals, like humans, that nourish their young through a placenta. Next image. Story by Byron Spice.
