During World War II women worked as machinists's helpers, as coal-loaders and sweepers. This woman appears to be a welder. This photo is from the Carnegie Library collection. While assembling the exhibit “Phenomenal Women” to honor Pittsburgh’s working women, the Carnegie Library discovered several historic photos with no caption information.
