Peter Winovich set a Thomas Jefferson record, throwing for 412 yards as the No. 1-ranked Jaguars (3-0, 1-0) routed Keystone Oaks, 39-6, in a WPIAL Class AAA Big Seven Conference opener last night.
Winovich completed 18 of 26 passes and threw three touchdown passes. He also ran 1 yard for another score. Winovich connected with Brad Dawson on touchdown passes of 22 and 67 yards and with Aaron Archibald on a 51-yard touchdown pass.
Jaguars placekicker Evan Browne also set a school record with a 44-yard field goal.
Keystone Oaks (0-3, 0-1) trailed, 7-0, at halftime, but the Jaguars scored 32 points in the second half. Bill Theobald’s 7-yard run was the Golden Eagles’ only touchdown.

Blackhawk 49, Valley 7
Coach Joe Hamilton tied the Beaver County record for the most career wins (269) as Blackhawk (3-0), ranked No. 2 in the WPIAL, rolled to a non-conference victory. Hamilton, who has coached at Midland, New Brighton, Hempfield, and Blackhawk, tied Pat Tarquinio, who coached at Beaver and Ellwood City. It was the first loss for Valley (2-1).
Pine-Richland 35, Ambridge 16
Greg Hough rushed for 188 yards on 29 carries and scored on touchdown runs of 18, 6, and 2 yards to lead No. 3-ranked Pine-Richland (3-0) to a non-conference victory on the new artificial turf at Ambridge’s Moe Rubenstein Stadium. Ambridge (1-2) was led by Shawn Besong, who ran 58 yards for one touchdown and threw a 18-yard touchdown pass to Rashawn Cameron.
Hopewell 14, Kittanning 7
Jakeel Lay and Scott Kelly scored touchdowns to lead No. 4 Hopewell (2-1) to victory in a non-conference game. Lay scored on a 15-yard pass from Josh Prigorac in the second quarter, and Kelly scored on a 4-yard run in the third. Kittanning (0-3) scored its only points on Brad Bothell’s 4-yard run.
Moon 30, Highlands 9
Moon (2-1) knocked No. 5 Highlands (2-1) from the ranks of the unbeaten in this non-conference game.
Chartiers Valley 14, Elizabeth Forward 6
Ryan O’Shea rushed for 174 yards on 21 carries and scored both touchdowns as Chartiers Valley (2-1, 1-0) opened its Big Seven Conference schedule with a victory. O’Shea scored on a 5-yard run in the first quarter, a 29-yard run in the third and capped the Colts’ scoring with a two-point conversion run.
West Mifflin 34, McGuffey 7
Shaun Thomas scored three touchdowns, and Jeff Grzyb added two more as West Mifflin (2-1, 1-0) dominated this Big Seven Conference opener. Thomas rushed for 102 yards on 13 carries and scored on runs of 5, 30, and 1 yards. Grzyb returned a kickoff 90 yards for one touchdown and also scored on a 14-yard run.
Belle Vernon 28, Laurel Highlands 21
Mike Davis scored on fourth-and-goal from the 3 in overtime as Belle Vernon (2-1, 2-0) remained unbeaten in the Keystone Conference.
Uniontown 42, Yough 7
Bill McLee and James Mays each scored two touchdowns as Uniontown (2-1, 2-0) rolled to an easy victory in this Keystone Conference game. McLee scored on a 47-yard run and on a 21-yard pass from Ryan Guthrie. Mays caught a 44-yard touchdown pass from Guthrie and a 34-yard scoring pass from Eric Simpson.
Mount Pleasant 42, Derry Area 14
Jeff Marker and Jon Sleva each scored two touchdowns to lead Mount Pleasant (2-1, 1-1) to its first Keystone Conference victory.
Greensburg Salem 24, West Allegheny 0
Brandon Sticca rushed for 210 yards on 20 carries and scored on touchdown runs of 4 and 35 yards as Greensburg Salem (2-1) recorded its second consecutive shutout. Sticca is tied for 10th on the school’s alltime career rushing list. The Golden Lions also scored on a 31-yard pass from Justin Head to Mike Tomoczko and on Matt Boe’s 30-yard field goal. West Allegheny fell to 1-2.
Knoch 14, Montour 7
Mark Rupert completed 8 of 19 passes for 148 yards and provided the winning points with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Shoop in the fourth quarter, as Knoch (1-2) posted its first win. The Knights also scored on Zach Ferraro’s 12-yard run. Montour (0-3) scored its only points on Jason Maningham’s 1-yard run.
Hampton 33, New Castle 0
Dan Brode rushed for two touchdowns, and Chris Platt threw for one touchdown and ran for another, as Hampton (2-1) treated its fans to a shutout in this non-conference game against winless New Castle (0-3). Brode scored on runs of 27 and 14 yards. Platt scored on a 3-yard run and threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Corey Veltrum. Jedd Cordisco added a 32-yard field goal for the Talbots.
Peters Township 47, Charleroi 7
Jim Gallagher completed 9 of 17 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns as unbeaten Peters Township (3-0) rolled to a non-conference victory.
