WPIAL Class AA Roundup: Jeannette holds off Yough rally

A furious rally by Yough (2-1, 2-1) in the fourth quarter fell short against Jeannette (3-0, 3-0) Friday night in an Interstate Conference clash.

The Cougars outscored the Jayhawks in the fourth but lost, 27-22. The Jayhawks had four players score. Terell Canady opened the scoring in the second quarter with a 32-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Tyler Donahue, who was questionable entering the game, threw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to Joe Pleva and Clayton Waldron. The touchdown reception by Waldron was his second score of the game.

Seton-LaSalle 42, Keystone Oaks 0

Seton-LaSalle scored three defensive touchdowns to lead the Rebels (3-0, 3-0) to a Century Conference win over Keystone Oaks (0-3, 0-3) at Dormont Stadium. Danzel McKinley-Lewis scored two touchdowns on a 45-yard reception from Tyler Perone and on a 21-yard fumble return. Perone accounted for two touchdowns.

Burrell 35, Summit Academy 6

Ryan Sowol rushed for 105 yards on 17 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead the Bucs (2-1, 1-1) to its first Allegheny Conference win of the season against Summit Academy (1-2, 1-1). The Knights didn't score until the fourth quarter on a run by J'Ron Hill-Phillips.

Beaver Falls 45, Ellwood City 13

Dan Stratton completed three touchdown passes and ran for another to lead the No. 2-ranked Tigers (3-0, 3-0) to a Midwestern Conference win against Ellwood City. Stratton completed 7 of 10 passes for 166 yards.

Waynesburg 35, Brownsville 6

Bo Hampson and Hunter Cenname each eclipsed the 100-yard mark rushing for 114 and 133 yards, respectively. The duo also scored two touchdowns to lead the Yellow Jackets (2-1, 1-1) to a Interstate Conference win against Brownsville (0-3, 0-2).

East Allegheny 14, Ford City 7

Kyle Whipple scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 13-yard run with 10:30 left in the game to give the Wildcats (1-2, 1-2) its first win of the season, against Ford City (1-2, 1-2). Whipple completed 7 of 13 passes for 156 yards, including a 48-yard pass to Rocco Dunn in the third quarter to tie the score.

Mount Pleasant 38, Southmoreland 0

The Vikings ( 3-0, 3-0) returned a 27-yard interception by Eric Klejka and a 92-yard interception by Nathan Pieszak for touchdowns to stay undefeated and beat Southmoreland (0-3, 0-3) in Interstate Conference action. The Vikings had six players score.

Freeport 14, Deer Lakes 10

Freeport (1-2) scored 14 unanswered points in the second half to pick up their first win of the season against Deer Lakes (0-3, 0-3) in the Allegheny Conference. Andrew Romanchak scampered 76 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to give the Yellow Jackets the lead. Josh Plocki rushed for 105 yards for Deer Lakes.

Shady Side Academy 10, Valley 8

Shady Side's stout defense prevailed again as the Indians (3-0, 3-0) edged Valley (2-1, 2-1) in a battle of top teams in the Allegheny Conference. Dan Marous connected on a 22-yard field goal in the third quarter that proved to be the winner.

Washington 66, Charleroi 10

Shai McKenzie, who entered the game as the third-leading rusher in WPIAL, ran for another 198 yards and three touchdowns on six carries before leaving with an injury to lift the No. 3 Little Prexies to an Interstate Conference win over Charleroi (0-3, 0-3). Malik Wells rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns on four carries for the Little Prexies.

Aliquippa 49, Riverside 0

The No. 1-ranked Quips (3-0, 1-0) breezed to its first Midwestern Conference win of the season against Riverside (0-3, 0-2). Terry Swanson led the Quips with 173 yards on the ground and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Dravon Henry also rushed for a 100 yards, totaling 107 on six carries. Darrien Fields threw for 113 yards and a touchdown.

South Park 37, Burgettstown 13

The Pantuso brothers accounted for three touchdowns to lead the Eagles (1-2, 1-1) to a Century Conference win over Burgettstown (0-3, 0-2). Greg Pantuso rushed for 157 yards on 13 carries and had one score. Vinnie scored twice, on a 10-yard pass and a 14-yard pass from Nick Scholle .

Quaker Valley 35, McGuffey 31

The Quakers (3-0, 3-0) kept pace at the top of the Century Conference with a close win at McGuffey (0-3, 0-3).

Beaver 49, Freedom 13

The Bobcats (2-1, 1-1) picked up their first Midwestern Conference win of the season at home against Freedom (1-2, 0-2).

Kittanning 18, Greensburg Central Catholic 13

The Wildcats (3-0, 2-0) held on to a slim five-point victory in non-conference action over the Centurions (0-3, 0-2) to remain undefeated on the season.

New Brighton 52, South Allegheny 25

South Allegheny (0-3, 0-2) scored more points than its first two games but it was not enough as New Brighton's (3-0, 2-0) cruised to a non-conference win to remain perfect.
