Dakota Bruggeman threw for one touchdown and ran for another to lead Knoch to a 24-6 road victory against Highlands Friday night in a Greater Allegheny Conference showdown for first place.
Knoch (8-0, 5-0), ranked No. 3 in Class AAA, remains unbeaten and clinched the conference title with the victory, while Highlands (6-2, 3-2) drops to third place.
Bruggeman scored on a 21-yard run in the first quarter. He also connected with Ben Tackett on a 23-yard scoring pass in the third quarter. Luke Kroneberg capped the Golden Rams victory with a 15-yard interception return for a touchdown.
The top-ranked Warriors (8-0, 6-0) clinched the Parkway Conference title with a convincing road victory against the Cougars (5-3, 3-3). Robert Foster returned an interception 86 yards for a touchdown and caught scoring passes of 13 and 64 yards from Curtis Lewis, who threw for 145 yards. Lewis also ran 83 yards for the Warriors' last score and finished with 137 yards on the ground.
Nate Ruffing scored four touchdowns, as the No. 4 ranked Jaguars (6-2, 6-0) remained unbeaten in the Big Eight Conference with a convincing win against the Leopards (3-5, 3-3). Ruffing scored on runs of 45, 2, and 86 yards. He also caught a 44-yard scoring pass from Ryan Presto, who completed 13 of 21 passes for 207 yards.
Michael Kizzie and Tyler Shook combined to rush for 269 yards and four touchdowns on 13 carries, as the No. 2 Panthers (7-1, 5-1) dominated the Colonials (0-8, 0-6) in the Keystone Conference. Kizzie had 144 yards and scored on runs of 48 and 40 yards. Shook had 125 yards and scored on runs of 9 and 74. Kizzie also scored on an 85-yard kickoff return.
Derrick Fulmore threw for one touchdown and ran for another to lead the Titans (7-1, 5-1) to a Big Eight Conference road victory against the Colts (5-3, 4-2). Fulmore connected with Marcus Martin on a 50-yard touchdown pass and ran 15 yards for another score. Colts quarterback Wayne Capers returned to the lineup, but left in the first half after aggravating an injury.
Rushel Shell rushed for 226 yards on 18 carries and scored on runs of 31, 45, 37, and 24 yards, as the Vikings (5-3, 3-3) kept their playoff hopes alive with a Parkway Conference shutout of the Bridgers (1-7, 0-6). Shell has 1,549 yards for the season. Zach Romah capped Hopewell's scoring with a 78-yard run.
The Red Hurricane (4-4, 3-3) rallied from a 24-14 halftime deficit with 27 points in the second half to defeat the Tigers (2-6, 1-5) in Parkway Conference game and keep their playoff hopes alive. Jon Matarazzo completed 17 of 26 passes for 264 yards and four touchdowns. He connected with Marcus Carter on touchdown passes of 17, 19, and 34 yards. Carter had nine catches for 155 yards.
Anthony Bianco scored on runs of 40 and 25 yards, while teammate John Nigro connected with Colin Luther on touchdown passes of 35 and 50 yards, as the Talbots (3-5, 2-3) rolled to a Greater Allegheny Conference road victory against the Wildcats (1-7, 1-4). Bianco rushed for 125 yards on 15 carries.
Owen Nearhoof connected with Jacob Wright on a 42-yard touchdown pass and ran 44 yards for a score, as the Planets (6-2, 3-2) posted a Greater Allegheny Conference victory against the winless Vikings (0-7, 0-6). Wright also ran 31 yards for a score. Jason Lozzi led Mars with 101 yards on 16 carries and one touchdown.
Jason VanKirk threw two touchdown passes and kicked a field goal, as the Hillers (4-4, 3-3) kept their playoff hopes alive with a Big Eight Conference victory against the visiting Eagles (2-6, 2-4). VanKirk completed 6 of 15 passes for 135 yards. He connected with Pat Frey and John Laschinsky on scoring passes.
Denzel Deslay rushed for 242 yards on 20 carries and scored on a 64-yard run and a 97-yard kickoff return to lead the Mustangs (3-5, 2-4) to a Keystone Conference win against the Golden Lions (2-5, 2-4). Jake Kearns scored on runs of 1,1 and 6 yards for the Mustangs.
Matt Albensi threw two touchdown passes to lead the Warriors (2-6, 1-5) to their first Big Eight Conference win against the winless Highlanders (0-8, 0-6).
A pair of field goals by Flyzell Williams was all the Red Raiders (2-6, 2-4) needed to defeat the Trojans (2-6, 2-4) in the Keystone Conference.
