ABOUT THE WALK: The first local Walk for the Whisper will step off at 10 a.m. Sept. 9 at the North Park Boat House. Participants may choose a one-mile or five-mile course.
On-site registration will begin at 8 a.m., followed by an aerobic warm-up at 9:30 a.m. Refreshments will be provided at a post-walk celebration at the boat house.
Preregistration will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at JC Penney at Monroeville and Ross Park malls.
Entry fee is $15; T-shirts will be given to all registered walkers.
A "Wall of Courage" will be erected in celebration of survivors, in memory of deceased loved ones, and in honor of caregivers. Anyone with a special memento to share -- a poem, a photo, etc. -- may affix it to the wall. All items should be retrieved after the closing ceremonies.
The walk is sponsored by the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition-Pittsburgh Division, a nonprofit organization of patients, family, caregivers and medical professionals. For information about the organization, call 1 (888) OVARIAN, or check its Web site at www.ovarian.org.
