• The Sisters of St. Joseph are sponsoring a "Young at Heart 2012" gala Sept. 28 at Allegheny Country Club, 250 Country Club Road, Sewickley Heights. -- Teal Hearts Network, for those with ovarian cancer, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 17 and every third Monday of the month, center offices, 4117 Liberty Ave., Bloomfield.

• The bereavement program of the Samaritan Counseling Center is sponsoring a bereavement group from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays from Sept. 20 to Oct. 25 at the Sharon Community Presbyterian Church, 522 Carnot Road, Moon. Call 412-741-7430.

Special opportunities

• Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh needs volunteers with receptionist and secretarial skills -- who can help on Tuesday afternoons with arts and crafts and field trips, help drive clients to appointments, serve as escorts for group activities and help staff who are blind or vision impaired. • The Beaver County Humane Society is conducting a rabies clinic for cats and dogs from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at its shelter, near Beaver Valley Mall, 400 Route 18, Center. The cost is $10 per animal; cats must be in carriers, dogs on leashes. Call 724-775-5801.
