Interpol’s 179 member countries are thereby formally requested to try to trace him and, if successful, immediately notify the Cairo Interpol Bureau as well as Interpol’s Headquarters in Lyon, France. Suspected Hijacker Left Strict Instructions - Mohammed Atta, a suspected ringleader of the Sept. 11 attacks who is believed to have piloted the first plane that struck the World Trade Center, left behind a will with a list of strict instructions for handling his corpse. A Gaunt bin Laden on New Tape - A new videotaped statement from Osama bin Laden that purports to have been made sometime in late November or early December shows the terrorist leader looking tired and gaunt but alive some three months after the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Osama bin Laden videotape - A videotape released Thursday by the Pentagon shows Osama bin Laden boasting of his involvement in the September 11 attacks and seeming amused that some of the hijackers were ignorant of their impending deaths. Speaking of the hijackers, bin Laden says, "They were trained and we did not reveal the operation to them until they are there and just before they boarded the planes." Al Qaeda Training Manual - From the U.S. Department of Justice. "The manual was located by the Manchester (England) Metropolitan Police during a search of an Al Qaeda member's home. The manual was found in a computer file described as "the military series" related to the "Declaration of Jihad." The manual was translated into English and was introduced earlier this year at the embassy bombing trial in New York. The Department is only providing selected text from the manual because it does not want to aid in educating terrorists or encourage further acts of terrorism."

Usama bin Ladin: Islamic Extremist Financier - This CIA assessment, released to the media in 1996, provides background information on bin Ladin, including his involvement in the resistance to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and how he became a prominent figure in supporting the resistance. It also provides information on the nature of his terrorist activities -- including the Islamic Salvation Foundation (Al-Qaida), collaboration with other extremist groups.

Al-Qaida - Established by Usama Bin Ladin in the late 1980s. Al-Qaida has a worldwide reach, has cells in a number of countries, and is reinforced by its ties to Sunni extremist networks.  Issued statement under banner of "the World Islamic Front for Jihad Against the Jews and Crusaders" in February 1998, saying it was the duty of all Muslims to kill US citizens--civilian or military--and their allies everywhere.
