A state legislator from Fayette County said he'll undergo heart bypass surgery Monday but expects to make a full recovery and return to work.

Rep. James Shaner, a Democrat, who is 69, said he was "feeling some discomfort upon his return to Harrisburg" on Monday and went home to check with his doctor.

"I am feeling a little better now and I'm confident that following the surgery I will make a full recovery and will get back to serving the people of the 52nd district," he said. He added that both of his constituent offices, in Dunbar and Mount Pleasant, will remain open while he's recuperating.
