"Game Day Gourmet" is the theme as Giant Eagle Market District chefs help customers kick off the football food season from 3 to 5 p.m. tomorrow and Saturday at both the Shadyside and Bethel Park Market District stores. The chefs will present recipes including Stillers Tailgater Chili, Cancun Cornbread, and Chicken and Jarlsberg Crostata.
Bocktown Beer and Grill in North Fayette will offer a 10 percent discount on mix-and-match six packs of beer to go on Saturdays and Sundays if you show your tickets to a regular 2008 season game of any area professional or college football game (bocktown.com).
"A tailgate event like no other" will be held by the Pittsburgh Camerata chamber choir. From 2 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 26 (before the Steelers meet the New York Giants), it'll hold a benefit called "A Steelers Gourmet Tailgate" at Mullaney's Harp & Fiddle in the Strip District. Tickets are $50 and $100 for the party, featuring fare including sausage balls, Provencal puff tarts and black and gold desserts, prepared by Camerata members and friends, plus an auction and more. Tickets, information: pittsburghcamerata.org or 412-421-5884.
"The NFL Gameday Cookbook author Ray "Dr. BBQ" Lampe also is working with the National Pork Board, providing tailgating tips and recipes (pork ones). At theotherwhitemeat.com, visitors can enter the "Team Pork Fiesta Bowl Sweepstakes" to win two tickets to the 2009 Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Ariz. and a VIP tailgate party with Mr. Lampe.
Product marketers of all sorts are putting on the "tailgate" blitz. We've recently learned about football-shaped Little Debbie brownies shaped like footballs as well as Krispy Kreme football doughnuts, which are available this month as "tailgate packs" -- a dozen of them plus a dozen Original Glazed.
Thanks to all our readers who submitted game-day recipes. We'll run some next week.
