Pattyisms to help you organize

Thursday, October 16, 2003

Stay put: Always be prepared to stay confined to the room you are organizing -- at least for the first half of your allotted time as you sort.

Half-time rule: Whatever time that you have set aside to organize, spend the first half SORTING and the second half PUTTING AWAY.

The flashlight focus: Imagine that you are holding a flashlight and shining it on one spot. Concentrate on this spot until it is organized.

The butt rule: Things you use daily should be within easy reach. Things you use less often should be farther away but accessible. Things you rarely use should go in the least convenient storage spaces. (In other words, you shouldn't have to get off of your butt to reach an item you use often.)
