Duquesne men's basketball player Bill Clark, who had started in the team's first 17 games this year, was held out of last night's game at Rhode Island because university officials were looking into a secondary NCAA violation regarding the 6-foot-5 junior from Redondo Beach, Calif.
By definition, a secondary violation is one that is isolated or inadvertent in nature, provides or is intended to provide only a minimal recruiting, competitive or other advantage and does not include any significant recruiting inducement or extra benefit. Most secondary cases are self-reported (either by the institution or through a conference office).
A timetable on Clark's return, and the exact nature of why he is being investigated, was not released by Duquesne officials.
The Dukes next play Saturday at home against St. Bonaventure.
