Associations/ Organizations

The Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce elected new board officers for 2013-14. They are: chairman, Ron Alvarado, president and founder of Novus Staffing Solutions; president, Carmen O. Malloy, customer relations program specialist, Peoples Natural Gas; secretary, Carrie Ann Quintana, vice president, multicultural marketing manager, corporate marketing, PNC Bank; and treasurer, Robert P. Spence, CPA. In addition, the following board members were elected: Kate Paine, litigation associate, Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC; and Kenia Ashby, Mooka Entertainment.

Estate Planning Council of Pittsburgh elected its board for 2013-14. They are: president, Jeffrey J. McSteen; vice president, Paul Pantano; treasurer, Pete D. Eberhart; secretary, Jamie D. Aul; immediate past president, Bruce R. Haldeman. In addition, directors: Henry R. Johnston, Thomas R. Kopf, Nora Gieg Chatha, Gwyneth Gaul, Mary Jane Olsavsky and Todd Sacco.

Pittsburgh Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals named its officers for 2013-14. They are: president, Virginia A. Deily; vice president, Joyce P. Arnold; secretary, Kathy J. Gasper; and treasurer, Susan L. Haslett.


MarketSpace Communications hired Mark Bedel, director of new business; Meredith Miller, director of public relations and social media; Jake Metzger, creative director, management team; and Danielle Unis, account executive.

Liane Palaschak joined Infinity Concepts as an account coordinator.


Chatham University announced that Timothy Bass is the new dean of the College for Continuing and Professional Studies and online education.

John A. Viator was named the inaugural director of the new biomedical engineering program at Duquesne University, effective Sept. 1.


Taylor Structural Engineers Inc. said Philip Rittling was named a principal.


Seegrid Corp. promoted John Hayes to vice president of U.S. sales and marketing.


Family House named Ron Gruca as director of development.

Awards and Honors

Karen Glass, an Advanced Burn Life Support instructor and LifeFlight nurse employed by the Allegheny Health Network has received a Trauma Prevention Award from the American Trauma Society, PA Division. Ms. Glass was chosen for this award due to her dedication to burn education and trauma prevention. As an ABLS instructor, Ms. Glass travels across the state to teach courses in burn emergency care, trauma care and treatment of cardiac arrest and other cardiopulmonary emergencies. She works with both the West Penn Burn Center at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital and LifeFlight, the Network's emergency helicopter service based at Allegheny General Hospital. She also recently received the "EMS Practitioner of the Year" award at the Annual Pennsylvania EMS I Conference.
