Associations & Organizations

National Federation of Independent Business said David Cranston Jr. was elected vice chairman of its state leadership council. The organization represents 15,000 small-business owners in Pennsylvania and 350,000 nationally. Mr. Cranston is owner of Cranston Material Handling Equipment Corp.


Robert W. Pater was promoted to manager of the Sarver Office of Northwest Savings Bank.

Allegheny Valley Bank appointed Thomas E. Sullivan IV as senior mortgage lender.


New Perspective Communications said John Caldwell joined as a project manager.


Mockenhaupt Benefits Group hired Richard Smith as a new staff actuary.

Credit Union

The Washington Community Federal Credit Union hired Melissa McMurdy, head teller; Amanda Nagy, accounting department; Ryan Rotilio, controller; and Jacie Rush, teller.


FISA Foundation appointed Shani Lasin, program officer.


Noreen Sokolak has joined Family Hospice & Palliative Care as a community liaison.

Allegheny Valley Hospital said Radha Aluru joined Saxonburg Medical Center.


Colin Morgan and Michael Lamb were elected as board members with Southwinds Inc. Mr. Morgan works as an associate attorney with Julian Gray Associates. Mr. Lamb is an associate attorney for the corporate and business representation group at Morella & Associates.

Family Resources elected two new board members: Lise Woodard, a retired businesswoman who also serves on the board of ARCS Foundation of Pittsburgh, and Brenda M. Dare, owner and president of Dare Enterprises Inc.

Public Agencies

VisitPittsburgh hired Tamara Whiting as national sales director.


Paul Kornblith of Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse was named the 2013 Pennsylvania Bio Schoemaker Award recipient. The Hubert J.P. Schoemaker Leadership award recognizes an outstanding leader in the bioscience community who best exemplifies the spirit of innovation in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Mr. Kornblith is medical advisor at PLSG.

Compassion Connection Counseling Center said Cindy Pfrimmer and Becky Segerdahl have attained the credentials of licensed professional counselor in the state of Pennsylvania.

JoAnn Jenny, director of communications, Allegheny County Airport Authority, was awarded Renaissance Communicator of the Year Not-for-Profit Organization by the Pittsburgh chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. Ms. Jenny was honored for her exceptional work in communicating Pittsburgh International Airport's messages, orchestrating the 20th anniversary celebration campaign for PIT and promoting important customer service programs including the website, the weekly low fare alerts and nonstop Pittsburgh to Paris on Delta Air Lines.

The Three Rivers Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors said Doreen Boyce is the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award. Ms. Boyce was recognized for her remarkable leadership in corporate governance, women's advocacy and for her role in creating three well-respected organizations, including the Three Rivers Chapter of the NACD, the Executive Women's Council and the International Women's Forum.

Carnegie Mellon University's Lorenz T. "Larry" Biegler and Jose M.F. Moura were elected to the National Academy of Engineering, one of the highest professional honors an engineer can achieve. Membership in the NAE honors people who have made important contributions to engineering theory and practice, and who have demonstrated unusual accomplishments in pioneering new and developing fields of technology.
