Associations & Organizations

The League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh has elected these members to its board for 2011-2013 -- first vice president: Annette Shimer; fourth vice president: Eileen Olmsted; treasurer: Carol Emerson; and directors: Tracy Baulding, Sue Broughton, Margaret McGrath, Nyota Robinson and Sandra Williamson. In addition, Eileen Olmsted was selected a SHUR fellow for the membership and leadership development initiative by the League of Women Voters of the United States. Local league coaches in the program include Carol Emerson, Nina Helbling, Mary Larsen and Evelyn Murrin.

Ralph Roskies, scientific co-director of the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center, was appointed to the board of regents of the National Library of Medicine. The National Library of Medicine -- in Bethesda, Md., part of the National Institutes of Health -- is the world's largest biomedical library.

Cheryl Hassell was elected to the board of directors for Women's Business Network Inc. and will serve a two-year term.

Pittsburgh Social Venture Partners named Elizabeth Visnic as director of partner engagement.


Gleason & Associates P.C. hired Thomas J. Krahe as a manager and Alicia Martin as a senior consultant.

Pete Brothers of R.A. Smith National was promoted to survey manager.


Kimberly Campbell was named senior TEM analyst at Professional Service Industries Inc.


West Penn Allegheny Health System appointed Allan Klapper, system chair, department of obstetrics and gynecology.

Samuel Urick III joined Fatigati-Nalin Associates, a division of St. Clair Medical Services. Dr. Urick will practice in the group's Robinson and Mt. Lebanon offices.


Vue Pointe Hospitality named Carol Darabant director of hotel operations. Vue Pointe Hospitality is a hotel and restaurant development company that is a subsidiary of Millcraft Industries.


Schneider Downs Corporate Finance LP hired Jonathan A. Spero as analyst.


Quest Fore hired Jill Yahnite as vice president of account services.


Spina Bifida Association of Western Pennsylvania appointed Karen Rath to its board of directors. Ms. Rath is a not-for-profit specialist for The Huntington National Bank.

Vanessa McCarthy-Johnson joined the Community Design Center of Pittsburgh as an executive assistant.

The Alliance for Excellence in Hospice and Palliative Nursing (The Alliance) named Janis Faehnrich chief executive officer.

Alvin W. Allison was named president and CEO of Baptist Homes Society. Baptist Homes Society operates two communities -- Baptist Homes & Baptist Manor in Mt. Lebanon and Providence Point in Scott.

Brothers Lazer Service Inc. said Vince Hutton and Franco Fratangelo had joined as business development specialists.

Retirement Communities

Angela Vernacchio Knauff joined Country Meadows Retirement Communities as executive director of its nursing and rehabilitation center. Ms. Knauff will oversee the Country Meadows Nursing Center and Mary Jane Leader Rehabilitation Center.


Louis P. Stanasolovich, founder, CEO and president of Legend Financial Advisors Inc. was selected as one of the Pittsburgh area's 2011 FIVE STAR Wealth Managers, which was published in the July 2011 issue of Pittsburgh Magazine.

St. Barnabas Health System said its president and CEO, William V. Day, was presented with the 2011 Ernst & Young Not-for-Profit Entrepreneur Of The Year award in the Western Pennsylvania region. The awards program recognizes entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.

The North American Manufacturing Research Institution of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers recognized Ralph Resnick, president and executive director of the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining with its 2011 Outstanding Lifetime Service Award. This award, which honors distinguished members for their longtime dedication and contributions to NAMRI/SME, was presented at the recent NAMRC Conference at Oregon State University.

James Rossetti, associate director of the Cell Transplantation Program at West Penn Hospital, was honored with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Chairman's Citation, given to individuals whose outstanding accomplishments show significant dedication and commitment to their chapter are deserving of national recognition.
