Pittsburgh Chapter of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants named its board for the 2011-2012 fiscal year. President: Martin A. The Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence at the University of Pittsburgh's Josph M. Katz Graduate of School Business said Lee Ann Munger, director of its Institute's Center for Women in Business, was nominated by Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett to serve on the State Charter School Appeal Board.

Dan Geisler, a nationally recognized colon and rectal surgeon from the Cleveland Clinic, has joined West Penn Allegheny Health System.

Eileen M. Boyle was named executive director at East Liberty Family Health Care Center.

Natalie McKay was named assistant administrator for the Skilled Nursing and Short-term Rehab Center at Concordia Lutheran Ministries.

Kimberly Bouch was named clinical director of nursing for Concordia Lutheran Ministries Licensed Personal Care Home on the Cabot campus.

Leo R. McCafferty, president of the Allegheny County Medical Society, was elected vice president of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Awards & Honors

The University of Pittsburgh Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business named Claudio Abreu, president and CEO of Bayer Business and Technology Services LLC, the recipient of the 2011 Distinguished Alumnus Award. The award honors alumni who have attained outstanding business leadership and demonstrated community service after graduation from Katz.

The Pittsburgh Intellectual Property Association Inventor of the Year Award Committee said the 2011 recipient of the Inventor of the Year Award was Barry Van Gemert, an inventor on 54 U.S. patents, including several directed to photochromic dyes that change from clear to a darker state upon exposure to light and revert to clear upon removal of light. The award is given annually to honor living inventors whose patented inventions have a significant impact on the economy, the social well being and the advancement of technology.

Richard Piacentini, executive director, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, was named the 2011 recipient of the American Horticultural Society's Professional Award. The award is one of 12 Great American Gardeners Awards that the AHS presents annually to individuals, organizations and businesses that represent the best in American gardening.

Jeffrey D. Evanseck, professor of chemistry in the Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences at Duquesne University, was named one of two 2010-11 Teachers of the Year by Duquesne University's chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society. The award is sponsored annually by ODK, which created this event in 1992 to give students the opportunity to recognize a teacher they decide best exemplifies leadership and excellence in the classroom. Mr. Evanseck, who was selected from among 130 faculty nominees, specializes in theoretical biophysical and physical organic chemistry.

The Insurance Club of Pittsburgh recognized Roger Davidson, account executive with Liberty Insurance Agency of Pittsburgh, as their 2011 Insurance Person of the Year at its recent I-Day Convention in Pittsburgh.

Mary F. Crawford was recently earned designation as a certified construction manager by the Construction Manager Certification Institute. Ms. Crawford is the founder and president of Crawford Consulting Services Inc.
