Joseph Pepe is the new president of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the company announced today.

Mr. Pepe most recently served as the president and publisher of The Commercial Appeal newspaper in Memphis, Tenn., where he led the development of six new product lines, including mobile and tablet applications.

He begins at the Post-Gazette on Monday.

"Joe Pepe has the skills and experience we have been looking for to grow the Post-Gazette's business. Never before has it been so important to adapt to the changing needs of the market by providing news delivery solutions that both readers and advertisers will embrace," said Allan Block, Chairman of Block Communications, the parent company of the Post-Gazette.

Mr. Pepe holds a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from the University of Oklahoma and has worked for over three decades in the media industry as an executive at several large media companies, including Gannett and the E.W. Scripps Company.

He replaces David M. Beihoff, the former president of newspaper operations for Block Communications, who has served as interim president of the Post-Gazette for the past three months. Mr. Beihoff returned to the Post-Gazette in July after former President Christopher H. Chamberlain left the company to become chief executive officer of Novum Pharmaceutical Research Services, the East Liberty-based medical research company.
