Anticipation -- and technical glitches -- made Heinz ketchup customers wait Monday when the Pittsburgh company ran into problems selling a new balsamic vinegar version through its Facebook page.
H.J. Heinz Co. officials, who said the issue was resolved by 9 p.m., have moved to appease those frustrated by the delay.
The company is promising a free bottle of the new ketchup to those who had posted on the site when it wasn't working Monday, said Michael Mullen, vice president of corporate and government affairs, in an email today. In addition, he said, the company is offering a free additional bottle plus free shipping to anyone who places an order today.
Mr. Mullen said a few thousand orders were placed overnight.
This is the first time Heinz has offered a U.S. product for sale through Facebook. The company plans to start selling the product through grocery stores beginning in December.
