Internet Venture Works, which helps bricks-and-mortar companies move their business online, is expected to announce today a partnership with UPMC Health System to co-develop and spin out technology developed in the 16-hospital chain.
Former Pittsburgh resident and Lycos executive Rob Frasca is chairman and chief executive officer of Boston-based IVW. From its Pittsburgh office, IVW will manage and operate an internal UPMC technology transfer group, and IVW will also house the spin-offs that arise from the partnership.
"Partnering with IVW enables UPMC to bring technologies quickly and aggressively to life," UPMC chief information officer Dan Drawbaugh said in a statement. The partnership will help maintain the region as a hub for health-care researce and technology, he said.
