Mullen promoted Alison Kretschman to media planner/buyer.


Verizon Wireless promoted Edwin Kremer to assistant manager of retail sales at the Monroeville store; Sean Ekey, technical support supervisor at the call center in Cranberry Woods; and Jarrett Dawson, director of indirect sales.

Contractor & Construction

PJ Dick promoted Jeffrey D. Turconi to president. Mr. Turconi previously served as executive vice president of PJ Dick for the past 10 years. He is a graduate of Penn State University and earned an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh.


The Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University has named Drew Chelosky assistant dean for development.

The Early Learning Institute named three new trustees to its board, all with ties to the Leadership Pittsburgh program. They are: Randall Cornelius, vice president and relationship manager, First Niagara Bank; Anne Clough, program and membership development manager, Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project; and Hannah Hardy, program director, Let's Move Pittsburgh.


Christopher M. Rumer joined Chester Engineers as an air quality specialist.

Herbert, Rowland & Grubic Inc. named Andrew D. Cardosi as a shareholder of the firm. Mr. Cardosi is office manager for its Pittsburgh office and regional service group manager for the transportation services group.


MassMutual Pittsburgh hired the following individuals as financial services professionals: William Scheerbaum, Christopher W. Arndt, Brian P. Johns, Anthony Closkey and Jered Rollins.


Washington Physician Hospital Organization, a partnership of Washington Health System, appointed John Six, M.D., and Matthew StantsPainter, D.O., as medical directors.


GENCO said Art Smuck, president of GENCO's Technology Solutions business, was appointed to the newly created position of group president.


United States Steel Corp. appointed Charles G. Balawajder to vice president and chief information officer.


State Rep. Dan Miller and Gerry Dudley of CBRE were named board members of Center for Theater Arts.

United Way of Allegheny County announced new appointments to its board of directors: Karen L. Larrimer, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of The PNC Financial Services Group; and Viktoras R. Sekmakas, executive vice president of PPG Industries.

Lynn Williams joined Colliers International|Pittsburgh as vice president of investment services.

Awards & Honors

Allegheny Valley Hospital announced that Kimberly Giovannelli, director of Community Services, was selected from among 10 nominees to receive the 2014 Evelyn Burston Award. The annual award is given by the Pennsylvania Society of Directors of Volunteer Services to a director of volunteer services. The award was named for Evelyn Burston, a recognized pioneer in the field of volunteer management. Ms. Giovannelli is a member of the Western Chapter of PSDVS and is serving as the 2013 chapter president.


Subra Suresh, president of Carnegie Mellon University, was elected a member of the Institute of Medicine, making him the only current university president to be elected to all three national academies. Election to a National Academy is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to engineers, scientists and medical and health professionals. Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to their fields. As one of only 16 living Americans to be elected to all three national academies (IOM, the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering), Mr. Suresh's work reflects CMU's interdisciplinary nature and collaborative spirit. The IOM recognized Mr. Suresh for advancing health and medicine through his research into cell mechanics related to malaria, blood diseases and certain types of cancer.
